This simply flops over your bino eye pieces when they are dangling around your neck to keep them clean and ready to use

I believe it is from the 1930's or earlier as it was made without the center cardboard tube

Original 1939 ASS Avalanche Shovel uniform The blanket in the photoThis is an original 1939 avalanche snow shovel made by ASS (Ace) of Munich in 1939. Many of these were sold to Switzerland which is why many people mistake them for Swiss; there are Swiss acceptance markings but they were made in Germany and did see use with the Germany army. This was never issued and shows only a little wear from storage. The shovel handle comes off to better fit into a backpack. I have one of these in my car and have dug myself out
